Best NCAA Football Picks for Week 10

For as good as my FCS picks have been this season, my FBS selections have been almost equally as bad. I have only had one winning week all year long.

Last week, Florida and Washington State turned out to be awful picks. The Gators and Cougars, respectively, were hammered in blowout losses. But Nebraska and North Carolina turned out to be very good selections, with the Cornhuskers winning outright and the Tar Heels nearly doing the same as a 20-point underdog.

As bad as my picks have been, one 4-0 week will get me to dead even against the number. With time on the college football season running out, I’ve been in the lab tinkering in order to get you the best plays possible. Here they are.

South Carolina +23.5 at Georgia – If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. I went against Georgia last week, and I’m not afraid to go against the Bulldogs again.

UGA is just laying too many points for a squad that has only defeated two good teams. South Carolina considers this a rivalry game and will give the top-ranked Bulldogs its best shot.

If there’s one thing that Will Muschamp can do, it’s make a football game ugly. The Gamecocks have a very good defense and can stop the run. For as impressive as Georgia’s Jake Fromm has been, he has not put it in the air much and most of his success has come off of play action. That’s something that South Carolina will be able to exploit in order to stay within the number.

Southern Miss +6.5 at Tennessee – Somehow, Butch Jones has still not been fired. It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Jones will be let go at some point within the next month, though.

The Volunteers have quit on the season, and keeping Jones around means that this team doesn’t even have an inspirational assistant to rally around as the interim coach. Tennessee has lost four in a row and its only decisive win all year came against a bad FCS team in Indiana State.

Now, the Golden Eagles come to town with upset on their minds. Southern Miss came close to defeating a Kentucky team that just beat Tennessee earlier in the year and boasts one of the best defenses in the country. The Golden Eagles are very good at stopping the run, which spells trouble for a Vols team that has been unable to find good quarterback play without Josh Dobbs.

Arkansas -23 vs. Coastal Carolina – November has always seemed to be the month in which Bret Bielema turned things around enough to the point that he didn’t have to worry about his job. He has come on like a freight train at the end of the year and now gets to play a Coastal Carolina team that is one of the worst in the country.

The Chanticleers can’t stop the run and Bielema has never been afraid to run up the score. His Razorbacks are going to pound the ball into this line all game long and wear down Coastal Carolina over the course of the game in a blowout win.

Under 45 in UTEP at Middle Tennessee State – It’s been a disaster of a season for both of these schools. The 0-8 Miners might be the worst team in the country and are just looking to finish the year already. Meanwhile, injuries have derailed Middle Tennessee State, so the Blue Raiders will be happy to just get to a bowl at this point.

Freshman Josh Banks looks like he will get the start at quarterback for the Blue Raiders. Brent Stockstill is still recovering from a cracked sternum and head coach Rick Stockstill won’t want to risk his son’s recovery against a bad UTEP team. Middle Tennessee State will be content with just eeking out a win in a low-scoring game.
